Katherine Johnson’s inspiring father and her dream for her country to experience great accomplishments led her to live a prosperous, influential, and important life. Katherine Johnson was born in West Virginia on August 26, 1918, to hardworking and loving parents. She grew up in poverty, but that did not stop her dream of getting a good education. Katherine Johnson devoted her work to helping America get its first citizen on the moon. Her abilities were not short-lived, she continued to help NASA until her retirement, and her hard work secured her spot as an important NASA team member throughout her years working there (Page). John Glenn, an astronaut, was so intrigued by Johnson’s work that he would not enter his aircraft unless she completed the calculations and measurements needed. This only confirmed her incredible intelligence further and proved to other people how important she was to NASA’s team (“Katherine Johnson”).
