This novel demonstrates the conflict of person vs. self as Katniss is facing her own inner struggle of deciding who she truly loves. She has difficulty choosing between Gale and Peeta. As she contemplates choosing Peeta over Gale, it clearly states that she will feel some sort of regret not being with Gale.
