Keep Knoxville Beautiful is a local non-profit organization with a mission to maintain and keep the city of Knoxville clean and green. Since 1978, the organization has made a difference in the community that many call home. Bringing their organization to Facebook, in 2010, has brought them the chance to reach out to a larger audience.
The page for Keep Knoxville Beautiful uses Facebook as a medium in a successful way. To support their non-profit and spread awareness, KKB uses Facebook to promote their events, give appreciation to their volunteers and board members, and other useful tactics to remind the community of how and why it is important to care for your environment.

The use of pathos by an organization and getting into your audience’s emotions is an essential part of this persuasion. Keep Knoxville Beautiful’s Facebook page recognizes areas that have meaning to people. For instance, local middle schools are being targeted for trash cleanup. This targets the parents of Knoxville. When a parent sees posts about schools that their child is attending, the parent is shown that little kids, maybe their own, are playing outside at recess, with trash and litter around them. KKB posted that one of their events “plant[ed] 36 trees’ and ‘pick[ed] up 150 lbs of litter at Northwest Middle School” (KKB). Litter comes down to all ages and everyone is affected by it. Children add a sense of vulnerability to a topic, especially if it is a parent. Knoxville is a family town and when ages from young to old are affected, it stirs emotions. Another example of pathos shown is when KKB posted an event commemorating the volunteers that make their organization possible. They state this event they are holding is “to celebrate the people who are beautifying our dynamic city in support of Keep Knoxville Beautiful” (KKB). Keep Knoxville Beautiful’s team shouting out their volunteers with a strong, thankful message delivers an overwhelming feeling of gratitude to the volunteers and citizens. A suggestion to offer to Keep Knoxville Beautiful’s page is posting twice a day, if not, at least daily. There seems to be a consistent posting range for multiple days, and then there is a break for a couple of days. Having a consistent daily routine of posting keeps your audience fully engaged as well as it brings more recognition to the page. Another suggestion to Keep Knoxville Beautiful’s Facebook sight would be to add an interactive calendar of all of the organization's events, in the information section of their Facebook page. This way, the audience is provided a straightforward area with everything they can participate in. Having a full calendar of events at first sight of the organization's page could add more attendance to the organization's events.
