My actual audience is everyone who reads the Daily Wildcat, but my target audience is leaning towards us students. It could also reach out to parents whom have children as well. A reason being for choosing that audience is that I primarily wanted to inform current students and also parents that have children that are in the public school system, because they are the ones that can make a change happen by knowing all the possible ways school choice can affect not only them now but the future of their children as well. This group of people are the ones that should be the most concerned about school choice because it effects them directly. Making it easier for the reader, I also made sure to introduce and start more off in an unbiased tone in my essay to pull the reader in more, forcing conservatives/ republicans or people who disagree with my ideology to continue reading my article and hear me out until reaching the end. And by doing that I was able to build on my ethos and creditability. I imagined the reader of my editorial to be a democratize student whose future kids could possibly be effected by this in the near future. But also reaches out to the hearts and mind of parents who already have kids like for example, professors, faculty and local Tucson parents. For example, “Instead of bringing the youth of America together as one, school vouchers are creating a separation of education between us” you can see this towards the end. Also emphasizing the fact that school vouchers bring on discrimination to almost any but primary focusing in minorities including myself. Which I also made evident when I quoted senator Tim Kaine that said ”They either aid in white flight or leach away minority students. This just makes it easier to give some kids a leg up while keeping others down.” This is also a perfect example of pathos which shows emotional appeal and connects with their emotions on a level where they might feel guilty or possibly hurt about leaving the disadvantage students behind because of various reasons including; race, sex, ethnicity and even money. I also stated that the most effect where the children of this nation, meaning if you were a parent reading this it would automatically make them emotionally involved to what I was talking about because this could possibly effect their very own child life’s.
