Persuade means to cause someone to do something by asking, arguing, or giving reasons. In both speeches they are talking about historical events. In both speeches, both of the authors use ethos, logos, and pathos. In the story “Keep Memory Alive” they used repetition, rhetorical questions, and slogans. In the speech “The American Idea” Theodore H. White uses facts and opinions. Previously, in the speech “Keep Memory Alive” and “The American Idea” they use ethos, but they are not the same as each other. In the speech “Keep Memory Alive” the author uses this as ethos. This sentence explains that when Thomas Jefferson put it into words it gave him an idea to do what he was trying to do. The authors also used logos in the speeches. This sentence explains that the world remained silent during the holocaust, no one came to their rescue, the people continued to hurt them.
