Theoretical Perspective Applying a theoretical perspective would help the organization, Kelsey Middle School, respond to the critical event of change in their leadership with a new superintendent. A specific theoretical perspective that can lend insight into this critical event is the social constructionist perspective. Based on the textbook A Multidimensional Approach For multifaceted Social Work, "the social constructionist perspective focuses on how people learn through their interactions with each other to classify the world and their place in it. People are seen as social beings who interact with each other and the physical world based on shared meanings, or shared understandings about the world" (Hutchinson, n.d., p. 50). When it comes to this definition and how it applies to this critical event, the word world can be replaced with Kelsey Middle School, as Kelsey Middle School can be looked at as being its own culture. Within this culture their is a specific set of assumptions and meanings that are just known within the confines of the school. This new superintendent may have came from an academic culture where the line of communication was more loosely shared between all faculty. At Kelsey Middle School, the line of communication starts at the top and passes through channels to reach even the lowest receiver on the chain. This information then also travels back up in the opposite direction through these same channels. When information is passing through channel to channel, the message could unintentional be changed. This is why message should not be passed in this manner through verbal communication. A better choice would be to either send a letter or e-mail through these
