In Ken Burn’s documentary, “The Civil War Episode 1: The Cause 1861 Ken Burn’s Documentary” was based on what had caused the Civil War. The difference between the North and the South was what caused the Civil War. Ken Burn demonstrated the differences between them, by explaining the emotions of people from both the North and the South. The North and South were divided because of what they believed in. Their differences about many topics, is what resulted in the Civil War.
Imagine a distant land where no one but native savages and wild beasts roamed, grasses that grew taller than your head, winter months that convinced you that suicide or death would be the best escape from the harsh conditions, and rivers that rushed faster and swifter than a great herd of cattle busting out the gates of Hell. There are very accurate descriptions of what the American West was pictured like by uninformed Eastern Americans in the early 19th century. Most of these people believed that there were lands west of them that were extremely scary and barbaric. However, it is true that the American West is and has always been thus majestic. “Why the West Has Won” by Victor Hanson was an enjoyable read, but sometimes hard to understand. It was a little hard to understand because of the many words I didn’t know the meaning of. After looking up these words and finishing the article, it is clear that Hanson’s argument is that he thinks the west was great at warfare. He tells us in the article that they are great at warfare because of the certain way they fight.
