The key components of U.S economy is the innovation and technology. The adaptation and application in the innovation and technology of Americans, which very well supported by U.S. Government, open up many opportunities for them in term of transportation and telecommunication.
Transportation
Transportation in the United States is accommodated by road, rail, waterways, and air. People usually travels on the road for shorter distances while using airplanes or trains for longer distance. For the cargoes, they travel via truck, railroad, or boat. Air shipments are used occasionally for the premium products or items that need a fast delivery.

With the help of the new technology, such as computers, satellite communication, and internet, have improved the productivity of the truck operation and save time and effort for the drivers. In 2006, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency implemented revised emission standards for diesel trucks to reduce airborne pollutants emitted by diesel engines. The truck operation will no longer produce air pollutants and it will improve the quality of public health.
Even though the majority of California citizen use the road transportation, the railroad transportation is also used. For the most popular intercity rail transportation is operated by Amtrak which has the three busiest intercity rail lines in the U.S. The Capitol Corridor connects the San Francisco Bay Area to Sacramento. The Pacific Surfliner runs along the coast of Southern California from San Diego to San Luis Obispo. And the San Joaquin connects the major cities of the Central Valley.

High-speed rail service is expected to begin in 2022 after the rails are extended south to Burbank. Phase 1 is planned to be completed in 2029.
