The song “Day N Nite” by Kid Cudi and the television series 13 Reasons Why discuss what it is like to have depression. 13 Reasons Why was released in 2017 and was a TV show targeted toward teens about a high school girl who moved to a new school and became depressed, then ended up passing away due to suicide. I watched this show in seventh grade because it was trending on Netflix, and all my friends had watched it. The song “Day N Nite” was released in 2008; however, I discovered it probably closer to 2016 or so when it became popular again. This song is about Kid Cudi’s depression and his experience with it. He sings about the symptoms he faced and how they affected his life. The show 13 Reasons Why has been publicly criticized for the main character’s depression and her to suicide that resulted from it. The show was about Hannah Baker and the 13 reasons of her suicide. These 13 reasons paint the image that her suicide was the other characters’ fault and that they were to blame for her death.
