In Hamlet there are certain characters who play a huge role without even having to be present or not appearing at all throughout the play. One of the most significant characters of the play is king Hamlet himself. King Hamlet is hardly present in the play because he is a ghost and a ghost would be rarely seen, but his son who has the same name as him is able to see him. This specific moment in the play is very significant because now Hamlet knows who has has killed his father and what his father asks him to do next is what starts to shape the action the whole entire play. King Hamlet tells his son to do him two things. The first thing is to murder his brother claudius and the second thing is to not do anything to harm his mother Gertrude.
