Kurt Warner was a mentor and not a coach. When he started off with the Rams he led the team to a super bowl victory by providing insight and motivation. The Rams coach was very hard on him and he struggled to maintain a positive attitude. The best examples of Kurt being a mentor are when he was with the Giants and the Cardinals. This is demonstrated when Kurt is benched for Eli since they want him to mentor the new franchise quarterback. Kurt does this enthusiastically and doesn’t want make a quarterback controversy. His ability to effectively mentor Eli is demonstrated by Eli improving into a great quarterback after starting out with eight loses. When Kurt moves to Arizona he mentors the entire team. He supplies the knowledge and demonstration of what it takes to make it to the super bowl. The team buys into what he is saying. Because of his success in mentoring the team, the Cardinals won their first playoff game in sixty years. He took Fitzgerald under his wing and really mentored him on a more personal level. Fitzgerald spoke about how he thought he was good enough, but was inspired by Kurt to move on from good enough to the best. At that moment, Kurt said he knew what he had to do at Arizona, mentor his teammates into a playoff ready
