For my interview, I decided to talk to Lance Williams of NVIDIA Research. Lance Williams has been working for NVIDIA as a research associate since 2011. His area of expertise is facial animation and he is currently researching new ways to create more realistic depictions of human faces. Prior to working at NVIDIA, Lance worked at Nokia Research Center Hollywood from 2008 to 2011, where he worked on developing an audio system for an eyeglass style of head mounted display. He also worked at Google as a software engineer from 2006 to 2008, at Applied Minds as a senior scientist from 2004 to 2006, and at Walt Disney Feature Animation as the chief scientist from 2002 to 2004. He feels that this is a very dangerous prospect and is worried that it’s an issue that people working in computer graphics will soon have to face. I was very interested in the kind of work that Lance does. He mentioned that he enjoys his work because he enjoys the visual element of it. He liked creating vivid images and depictions using a computer and he understands how it can have many applications in communications technology and entertainment technologies. Personally, I am interested in the entertainment and creative side of technology and software so the way Lance was describing his work was very interesting to me. However he did talk about how it can be very hard to find work in this field due to a lot of the jobs being commodified and outsourced. He felt that there was no real guaranteed career path that one could take to land a good career in software development. When I asked him what advice he would give to someone seeking a job in software engineering and software development he told me that he felt getting a broad education was extremely important. He said that if you understand a variety of topics you can “try and find some application area that you think is gonna be important in the future,
