Texting is ubiquitous in modern Western society. It's a convenient way to communicate basic ideas quickly without having to commit to a phone conversation or the long wait for a letter. When texting, it is customary to abbreviate certain words in order to save time. These abbreviations can be considered a language that evolves out of texting, and that language can be referred to as textspeak.

General Douglas Macarthur of the US Army once stated “the soldier above all other people prays for peace, for he must suffer and bear the deepest wounds and scars of war”(General Douglas MacArthur's Farewell Speech to West Point). This quote truly emphasizes the effects that war has on the men who fought in them. The mental strain that war causes can be seen in the main character of In The Lake Of The Woods, John Wade. In the novel, author Tim O’Brien utilizes constant repetition as well as violent visual imagery to depict how in times of great stress, people commit actions without realizing their haunting consequences, such as Kathy’s possible escape.
We have reached the end of the semester unconsciously. During this semester, we’ve practiced and improved our writing by outlining, composing, editing, and revising. Throughout the process, I discovered my strengths and weaknesses, meanwhile, I tried hard to refine my writing skills. By now, we have focused on a few types of writing: rhetorical analysis, critical analysis, and argument. Remembered our first in-class essay was a rhetorical analysis of an argument.
Social media and hell both illustrate the misuse of language. In The Inferno, Dante Alighieri says the misuse of language serves as a form of sin. We see the misuse of language in social media such as when someone says they are someone, but in reality they are a different person. This state, also known as catfish, comes from the well known reality television show Catfish. Misreading, not fully looking at the whole situation, and disguising as someone else is recognized as a sin for the misuse of language.

The obsession the world has for Twitter has caused controversy because of some tweeters mistreatment, and could be argued to be a destructive app. Social Media can be used positively through expressing creativity, connecting with friends or family, and finding commonalities that can be enjoyable to look at or read about. Twitter is not an appropriate social media app for teens because is causes self image to down-spiral leading to depression and suicide, eliminating face-to-face communication, and is becoming a huge time waster. Twitter is a social media app that allows users to share what they are doing or how they are feeling with their followers.
