Death is a natural part of life. For many, it is a concept that we are trying to avoid, yet death is unavoidable; all living things eventually die. Life itself is a journey; each step and decision we make shapes our destiny and our future. We will counter Joy, happiness, and hardship through our choices. All these experiences added meaning to our journey. In Randy Pausch's last lecture, he discusses major points in the journey of life. This essay will explore some of the major points that Randy talks about, the first point we will discuss is experience is what you get when you don't get what you want, second always have fun and lastly, Time must be managed, like money. Sometimes what we get is something more. In the lecture, Pausch talked about his dream: he wanted to play in the NFL. Unfortunately for him, he was not gifted or had the skill to play. Pausch says, that people often learn much more when they fail, when they don't get what they want. As Pausch goes on to say, such an experience of failure is often the most valuable trait a person has to offer. He notes that new companies often hire a CEO, a person who tried to start a company and failed at it. That kind of individual has more humility and, from having failed, a much stronger sense of what to avoid to succeed. A person with an unvarnished string of successes, on the other hand, Pausch states, can be blind to what is going wrong until it is too late. In chapter 13 of the book Coming to Term with Death, coming to terms with death is realizing that you had an accomplishing life that may not always go the way you wanted but you have a transformative experience.
