Last Of The Mohicans Summary

The Last of the Mohicans starts out in the middle of the French and Indian War in the state of New York. Two sisters named Cora and Alice are trying to reach their father Munro, who runs Fort William Henry. Alice and Cora are taken to Fort William Henry by a young officer named Duncan. Magua, a Huron Indian, is suppose to guide them through the dangerous forest to the Fort. This convoy eventually runs into a man named Hawkeye, whose real name is Natty Bumppo. He also resides with two Mohicans Indians named Chingachgook and Uncas. Hawkeye and his Mohican friends tell Duncan, Magua, Cora, and Alice that they are going the wrong way to Fort William Henry. Hawkeye is shocked that they are going the wrong way and it turns out to be Magua’s fault.

Munro and Montcalm come to an agreement of surrender or basically evacuate Fort William Henry or die because the troops come in with a motive to kill everyone at the fort. Magua comes in and takes Cora, Alice, and David, who agreed to protect the sisters. A few days later Chingachgook, Uncas, and Heyward go looking around the ruins of the fort to find Cora and Alice but doesn’t find them. He does however find part of Cora’s green riding veil and he sees that their horses are gone. They conclude that Magua took them and decide to pursuit them the next morning by canoe to avoid getting captured. David is free to move about in the Huron encampment so he tells Heyward and Hawkeye that Cora is in the neighboring Delaware tribe and that Alice is somewhere in the Huron encampment. Heyward and Hawkeye sneak in disguised as a French doctor and a bear. Heyward is taken to a sick woman by a Huron chief. He then finds Alice and makes Alice dress up as the sick woman and wraps her up in blankets. Heyward sneaks out of the Wigwam to rescue Uncas. Uncas then dresses in the bear skin, heyward puts on David’s clothes, and David pretends to be
