Student Case Study I have chosen an eleven-year-old Hispanic American female student for my case study. Anna is in my homeroom class and in the 6th grade. In the classroom, she has various seating arrangements due to her behavior issues; talking, touching, eating, not in her seat, etc. She sits at the front of the room and next to my desk.
Have you ever heard about role models? If you have, then you would know that each one has to undertake some sort of mission to become what many people call a “role model.” The first role model’s name is Ernesto. The second person 's name is Farah Ahmedi. Finally, the third person is not a person.
Intermarriage between latinx and non-Hispanic whites can go three ways in terms of cultures, it can be disregarded, equally embraced, or one is taking in more than the other. When a couple in this case Latinx culture can be disregarded due to the negative stigmas that comes with being latinx, the partners experiences that lead to a disagreement in the cultural norms of the traditional latinx values, or the idea that the latinx identity doesn’t really apply to them due to their own personal way of how they grew up and around who. It creates challenges because even if these couples believe themselves to identify white society won’t see them that way because no matter how hard one try you can’t escape culture. The Field Guide to the North American Teenager written by Ben Philippe, is about a Black, outspoken, sarcastic teenage boy named Norris Kaplan, who moves from Montreal to Austin, Texas. He navigates his way through his parents’ divorce, a new country, racism, romantic feelings, and teenage life in general. To overcome the struggle of moving to a new country, Norris writes in his journal, finds a job to save money, and starts a hockey team. Introduction Latino children have higher obesity rates compared to Caucasian children; “38.9 percent of Latino children are [O/O] compared with 28.5 percent of White children” (TSO). The same studies shows that young Latino children have higher O/O rates compared to White children – 16.7% compared with 3.5% in the 2-5 age group; 26.1% compared to 13.1% in the 6-11 age group (TSO). Five social determinants of health (SDH) contribute to this issue. First involves the lack of health education Latinos have about healthy foods and the risk factors that come with childhood obesity.
In summary, as Latino’s English language learner students lag in communication skills and in science vocabulary, it is vital that educators are knowledgeable on how to prepare the students to compete in the 21st century economy. Poplin and Phillips (1993) argued that often students are wrongfully labeled as “learning disabled” due to what some educators thought as a language difference in Latino English language learners, and inadequately recognizing the relationship between vocabulary knowledge and comprehension of text. On the contrary, Campos, Delgado and Huerta (2013) suggested that educators need to recognize the misconception about English language learners and provide accommodations to support their teaching and learning in the classroom,
Salgado acknowledge studies on complexities of Latino youth transitions from middle to high schools with concerns declining grades, and concerns of low college graduate status. Although determining results are said to be unknown at the present time research studies are being conducted for transition variations. Gender differences with Latino families could contain a probable cause to the outcomes of school performances at the time of stated transitions, along with other measures such as instructor’s expectations between youth boys and girls. There is a very high rate at which young males of Latino background are dropping out of high school and in some parts of the U.S the dropout percentage gets to be as high as 60%. There are many reasons for this social issue using the Social Pathology and we will explore the answer to this problem. We can look at these young Latino males in all parts of the country as being deviant. The reason this social problem exists is because of their deviance. So, how is it that all of these males from this particular ethnicity from all parts of the U.S are deviant in the same way?
Ariel Rodríguez acknowledges how important it is to empower the Latino parents with knowledge to help pass down to their children. The Program he mentioned were American Dream Academy which helps the Latino community with information about high education and how important it is. “…the number of individuals who self-identified as Hispanic, Latino, or Spanish in the United States exceeded 50.5 million and is the fastest growing minority group. Yet, only 31.9% of Latinos aged 18 to 24 enroll in college…” (Rodriguez et al. 651).
One of my biggest supporters are my parents. Their support and conviction about the worth of acquiring an education has shaped my beliefs, values and ambition to continue higher education and use my career in a progressive way to give back to my community. Unfortunately, not everyone had the same support system like I did. Many of my peers struggled whether to continue their education or financially support their family. This is a very dangerous reality within the Latino community that needs to be addressed and resolved immediately.

Suicide is the act of killing yourself, most often as a result of depression or a mental illness. Latino adolescents are at an elevated risk of suicide compared to other ethnic groups, due to depression or bullying. Bullying is an intentional aggressive behavior, typically very common in adolescents. Normally the bully uses superior strength to intimidate or dominate a person from a different ethnic background or a smaller, weaker person. Bullying can cause a victim to feel upset, afraid, ashamed, embarrassed, depressed, and anxious.
Introduction In 1968, the Latin American Youth Center (LAYC) was founded to address the absence of services for the emerging Latino community. LAYC offered educational and vocational activities after school and in the summer at several locations in the community. With overwhelming support from community youth, volunteers and parents, the LAYC began a multicultural youth and family development center in the District of Columbia serving Latino youth, while serving as a bridge to the wider youth community (“Latin American Youth Center”, 2017). Today, we work with over 4,000 youth and families in Washington, DC, and Maryland’s Prince George’s Counties at four sites and dozens of service points through partner schools and organizations.
According to the CDC Hispanics of Mexican origin make up approximately 17 percent of the population in the United States. They are the one of the largest cultural populations in U.S. has risen dramatically over last four decades. There are a variety of reason that lead to health disparities for the Hispanic community these reasons then lead to the individuals not obtaining healthcare. First, it was reported by the Center for Disease Control and Prevention in 2012 that 29.1 percent of the Hispanic do not have health insurance. This usually prevents the majority of Hispanic people from receiving health care.
The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services acknowledges that there are 10 million teens in the United States drinking regularly and over 20 percent binge drink. ( Teen Alcoholism). This information illustrates the dependence that teens have developed for alcohol and many of them don 't even know the issue that they are building for themselves. The signs that demonstrate that a teen is becoming or is addicted to alcohol are that he/ she is a heavy drinker, they drink regularly for no reason and becoming upset over the removal of accessibility of alcohol.
