Clemmie Sue Jarvis, an elderly vivacious pig farmer and longtime resident in the farming hamlet of Wrongberight, Virginia she heads south on Grayson Road, late Saturday afternoon. As she drives down the narrow two lane county road, she likes to pretend that she is Danica Patrick on the final lap at the Daytona 500. The checkered flag in sight, her petite foot has the pedal to the metal and her Chevy reaches 157mph. In reality, her rusty Chevy pickup, held together with hairpins, bubble gum, and duct tape, tops out at 30mph.
Another heroic civilian was George Walters, a dockyard worker who used a rolling crane positioned alongside the battleship USS Pennsylvania. When the yard was fired at during the beginning of the raid, he valiantly moved his crane back and forth on its track, effectively blocking Pennsylvania from low flying dive-bombers and fighters. Gunners on the Pennsylvania considered the dockworker a nuisance at first, but they soon realized that his 50-foot-high cab gave him an excellent view of incoming zeros. Using the movements of the crane arm, they were able to return fire against the enemy. Walters continued his maneuvers until a Japanese bomb exploded on the dock and sent him to the hospital with a concussion.
A seemingly uncorrelated death of a child becomes an attack on two businesses that brought forth unwanted attention. It reveals how corporations can truly neglect their surroundings and the safety of citizens without remorse. In the quaint town of Woburn, Massachusetts, the death of Anne Anderson’s son due to leukemia quickly transformed from a personal tragedy to an extensive lawsuit. Anne Anderson approached Jan Schlichtmann, a personal injury lawyer, to tackle the case. From the beginning, Anne makes it clear that she does not want money, she simply wants an apology.
Your honor, as I evaluated Gene Forrester, he was exceedingly suspicious, although that doesn’t mean anything quite yet. I didn’t want him to feel uncomfortable, so we talked until I got to know Gene a little better than before. We went where he was most comfortable to talk about the incident. I started off with simple questions to keep him from getting nervous. I asked him about his friendship with Phineas.
Per Reporter: Brianna informed Ms. Mating (9/28/17) that she was scared to go home because Candice would not be home after school. Roy whips Brianna when she doesn’t do well on her vocabulary words. A month ago, Roy hit Brianna with a fly swatter on her leg and butt; the plastic part of the fly swatter fell off while Roy continued to hit her with the medal part. According to Brianna, there was marks or bruising, but there are none currently.
Chris McCandless was in his early 20’s, he was the kind of that guy that wanted to learn and experience life without all of the material things. He wanted to be independent from his parents and friends so Chris did something that would be insane for most of us humans but to him, it wasn’t. He went into the wild of Alaska for months, in fact, McCandless even thought he could make it out alive at the end of his journey. As a matter of fact, he was known as being a risk taker and enjoyed being out and about in the nature side of the world. Many would believe that Chris McCandless went into the wild to purposely kill himself; however, I myself believe that McCandless did not do it purposely.
When Katie Johnson first filed her complaint in California, she said she was indigent. She was an impoverished person who needed help in her search for justice. The person she accused of raping her, Donald Trump, was a very wealthy man. He had paid "Hush Money" before to buy a person's silence, about something that embarrassed him. So it makes sense to ask, did Donald Trump offer “Katie Johnson” hush money to disappear and not talk?
Abigail Adams was extremely influential to the nation’s beginnings due to her drive to push certain decisions and debates through the status of her husband. She found the issues of women’s rights and slavery while also finding local politics to be important. As the wife of a president, Abigail Adams was able to use her status in a way to push and bring to life her political agenda. Abigail Adams was able to provide her husband with information and insights of the political situation in Boston during his decade long trip through numerous letters that had been exchanged for so long. Her letters regarding the political situation “included commentary on the American struggle for independence and the political structure of the new republic.”
In life some feel the need to prove something to others. That they are better, stronger, or even more intelligent. Whatever the case may be people will go through extreme measures to prove themselves. But who do we really need to prove anything to? Is it our parents?
In the short story “Desiree’s Baby” by Kate Chopin, A woman named Desiree supposedly takes the life of herself and her child after “discovering” that she is biracial, and that her child is also of mixed race. Although, in the end of the story, we discover that the baby’s father, Armand, is really the biracial parent, it still seems logical to remember the story as if Desiree were biracial, since that is what both she and Armand believed, up until the very end. Many believe that Desiree’s decision to kill herself and her child was justified, because of the shame and ridicule that would come to the child, and the fact that she herself believed that neither her nor the child would have a happy future. Many believe that Desiree’s actions were justified because of the few options she seemed to have at the time, and the fact that all she could think about was how shameful she felt for being biracial, and
It took just forty five days for United States citizens to acquiesce their rights to freedom and privacy for the sake of safety following the events of September 11, 2001. Forty five days is how long it took the United States Congress to pass a law that gave up the very concept of liberty upon which this country is founded. The morning sky was a brilliant shade of blue with not a cloud in sight in New York on that fateful day of September. That all changed at 8:45 AM when a Boeing 767 jet plane tore into the north tower of the World Trade Center. Eighteen minutes later, a second Boeing 767 bit into the sixtieth floor of the south tower.
Journal Entry: The Presidential Debate #1 The first presidential debate was almost childish. The way that both Hillary Clinton, and Donald Trump attacked each other in a desperate attempt for votes was pathetic. There was no winner/loser in this debate, the fact that the allegations against trump were ignorant and most likely untrue, was a clear indicator how the rest of the debate was gonna go.
Technology has been around for thousands of years in a plethora of different forms. As time continues on, so too do the advancements in technology. To be more specific, the technological advancement most synonymous with the modern individual is the internet. The birth of the internet has allowed for things that were not possible before: connect with people all over the world in an instant, order a television from an online marketplace and have it delivered right to the doorstep, or enjoy new forms of entertainment. However, alongside the introduction of the internet and its benefits comes with a number of anxieties, too.
Medea: The Revengeful “Let death destroy Jason and Jason’s children! Let the whole ancestry of Jason be destroyed!” (Fredrick, 2015 , p. 18) Studying the case of Medea, effects of PTSD made her commit Spouse revenge filicide because she wanted to punish her husband, Jason, for betraying her and breaking the oath he took. In his article, Combat Trauma and physiological injury, Brian Lush uses the same method Jonathan Shay used to interpret Achilles’s actions in the Iliad for Medea’s situation.
