Set Construction The position I plan on having in the future of my film career would be as a lead carpenter. The lead carpenter is in charge of keeping up with construction deadlines and making sure the proper materials and tools are delivered on time and that the teams they are in charge of are doing their job properly and in an orderly fashion. They are also the main line of communication between the construction crew members and the construction foreman. The lead carpenter makes sure the set is constructed the way the production designer and set designer had previously designed for the look and feel of the production. One of the other many responsibilities they have communicating with their superior the construction foreman of the progress made each and every day by the team of carpenters under their supervision. A lead carpenter is usually a position held by and individual with and education in set construction or with years of experience in residential or commercial construction and also the ability to be a proper and effective team leader, they must also possess the knowledge on how to properly read and plan out a construction around a blueprint designed by the set designer and be able to properly guide their crew members to assemble the set properly and time effectively. In many ways the lead carpenter is very similar to their industrial and commercial construction counter parts. Often many of the skills are transferable and have similar work place applications. This is also a position where I would be most comfortable with and be at my most effective within the film industry. With many many years until I have the experience and knowledge to rise to the position many things can change I may discover sometime down the road that this may not be my final film career destination or that I may find out that I want to pursue another path in the film
