Lead/Manage Essay There are many amazing leaders in our world. A few exemplars are presidents, religious leaders, parents, schoolteachers, and so on. Many leaders have several noble characteristics in common. In a textbook called “Administration of Programs for Young Children” there are 5 C’s of leadership, which are character, caring, commitment, confidence, and communication. A few examples of what a well-qualified leader would do are, communicate a vision, explain standards, and create a strong foundation for the program. Leaders are like a machine. They should provide guidance and direct others in order for everything to work smoothly. Without a working machine the other pieces would not be beneficial. (Click and Karkos, 2011) Management is the nuts and bolts of a machine, without them the machine would fall apart. Management controls or directs resources to establish principles, such as core values. “The role of the classic manager is to work within the existing system to maintain the status quo, minimize risks, enforce organization rules, steer people in the right direction, react, and provide instruction and direction (Click and Karkos, 2011, p. 10). All of these skills I will use in working in the early childhood education field. I know I will have opportunities to mentor others, whether it is children or training other adults to work with children. Effectively listening to individuals is also a skill that will bless me in my career and in my relationships throughout my life. Having organization and efficiency in my future jobs will also be great qualities that others I work with will appreciate. I am very grateful for this assignment and the time I was able to reflect on skills that I possess and skills I am going to work
