Entrepreneurial Profile:
Cristiano Ronaldo was born in Madeira, Portugal on the 5th February 1985. For a man of 32 years of age, he has achieved a great amount in his life. He is most renowned for being one of the greatest football players in the world, currently plying his trade at Real Madrid. However there is much more to Ronaldo’s life and career than just football. He is one of the few sports stars to exhibit both an entrepreneurial desire and skill to set up his own business. An entrepreneur can be defined as a risk-taker and an innovator and these characteristics certainly apply to Cristiano Ronaldo (Blanchflower et al, 1998). He ingeniously spotted a gap in the market and took the risk of financial and reputational loss in the hope and expectation of attaining success. This was a particularly courageous undertaking for Ronaldo who values his reputation highly. In his own opinion, it is his global reputation that allows him to “venture as an entrepreneur” (EFE, 2016)
