On November 14, 2016, a Class Action Pursuant was filed against the School Board of Lee County Florida. The case was Gittens verses School Board of Lee County filed in 2017 in the United States District Court (Gittens v. School Board of Lee County, 2017). Several plaintiffs that are employed by the Lee County School Board filed a lawsuit claiming that the Lee County School District discriminated against them due to their race. The plaintiffs in the Class Action Pursuant stated that the School District of Lee County employs a selection process for promotions that discriminates against African Americans (Gittens, 2017). The Chief Human Resource Officer for the Lee County School District Dr. Angela Pruitt (2017) provided an Affidavit that explained the School District process for hiring an Assistant Principal. Dr. Pruitt (2017) mentioned that for an applicant to be considered for the position of an Assistant Principal, that the applicant must apply and then accepted into the AP Pool. However, the Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 is a very important Law that provides protection against employment discrimination (Stewart & Brown, 2015). Besides, Title VII also prohibits any discrimination that is based on color, race, national origin, religion, and sex (Stewart & Brown, 2015).
