Journaling will be used to increase Lee’s awareness and insight. It will also be used to promote change and personal growth within Lee’s life, thoughts, and attitudes. This technique will be used to assist Lee in developing and increasing her sense of self. This technique will be used with a variety of exercises and prompts such as: journaling with photographs, letter writing, timed journal entries, sentence stems, and dialogue. These exercises will all be used to enhance Lee’s understanding of the process, as well as her understanding of herself, and past and current experiences. Journaling will allow Lee to continue work outside of the current therapy setting, and will allow her to articulate thoughts and feelings, which she may not be able to convey openly in the therapeutic setting. Lee will be assigned specific reading assignments associated with topics of interest. Assignments may include readings on life within the justice system, and self-awareness, familial roles, and anger/guilt. This intervention will allow Lee to explore a wide variety of topics, both suggested and individually chosen. This will allow Lee to increase her understanding, while also verifying that she is not alone in the specific areas of struggle. Bibliotherapy creates and outlet and a sense of control for individuals, and for Lee this will allow her to focus some of her thinking into one
