1) “Shifting the Origin: Legacy of Copernicus, Galileo and Newton” was created by Christopher Viney but presented by Wil van Breugel.
2) The purpose of presenting “Shifting the Origin: Legacy of Copernicus, Galileo and Newton” was to demonstrate how certain individual’s contributed to the change of knowledge that people had. The purpose was also to explain how the tension between science and the church began to build.
3) The church liked the idea that everything orbited the Earth and that everything was perfect. However, these ideas of Earth being special and everything being perfect were shattered by several individuals. For instance, Galileo discovered that the moon was not perfect. He found that the moon was, in fact, not smooth and had craters. Before this discovery was made, Copernicus purposed another idea on the universe. He purposed that the Sun was the center of the Universe and not the Earth, the only thing that orbited the Earth was the moon. However, Copernicus still assumed that the orbitals were circular. Copernicus’s “simple” theory was based on William of Ockham’s ideas that stated that simple answers were usually the correct answer.
