Marijuana is the most use illicit drug in the United States. It is estimated that in 2013, the number of individuals who engaged in use of Marijuana was estimated to be 19.8 million. It is estimated that 7.5 percent of that number have consumed Marijuana in the last month. These numbers, may prompt an inquiry as to the reason that why states appear to support the legalization of marijuana (in varying degrees), whereas, the federal government appears to be fixed in a strict anti-marijuana policy. Some of the factors of this trend could be inclusive of among other factors, an increase in availability, an increase in use, use of marijuana for medical purposes, and potential revenue for states. With public opinion seeming supporting the idea of legalizing the use of marijuana, some may question, what factors are influencing this evolution? Several contributing factors may influenced the change of public opinion. One such factor is the increase in availably. The availability of marijuana, has increased as a result of the rising marijuana production in Mexico, cultivated by drug trafficking organizations. However, it is not exclusively the viability.
