Legalizing Cannabis Persuasive Speech

Who doesn 't like having a good time? We work all week with a promise of a sweet release from all the chaos life so graciously bestows upon us. As adult we have many choices of relaxation “enhancers” with Cannabis being the most controversial. Currently it is scheduled as a Type 1 drug, which is the most dangerous of drugs with no medical use applicable. We should legalize and declassify this harmless plant so we may benefit from it’s vast medical benefits.
Although cannabis is legal in 23 states, it is still illegal on a federal level. Because of this fact there has been little research allowed on the medical effects of cannabis until recently. With no cure in sight to an unavoidable demise it is essential that we use any assets we have. Cannabis is a fabulous contender to curing cancer altogether. Chemicals found in the plant are able to stop the spread of cancer by “turning off” a gene known as ID-1. It is even suggested that some compounds of cannabis can kill cancer cells altogether.
The war on drugs has failed and is continuing to place non violent offenders in jail. Cannabis is said to be a gateway drug, although that is a personal choice of the user. Another issue often brought up to dispute validity is that it is damaging to your mental health. Smoking the plant in adolescence can be linked to developmental and social issues while the brain is still maturing, but studies show no change is cognitive ability once matured.
We as humans have a fatal flaw known as ignorance, if it does not fit our morals we don 't want to hear it. Not only can we benefit medically from the plant but we can also use it to improve our economy by eliminating criminal activity, providing revenue, and using hemp for all of its many purposes. With more states debating and legalizing cannabis every year, it is safe to say that it is not the evil plant the war on drugs has depicted it to be.
