The book Of Mice And Men also known as OMAM starts off with 2 men George and Lennie being dropped off a Few miles South of Soledad California, Soledad actually translates to loneliness. George was a short fellow but also was a smart man. He took care of his cousin Lennie because Lennie had autism. Lennie was a tall, strong and really hard working fella but he could kill small animals with his bare hands. The two went to a ranch looking for work since Lennie had got in trouble in a town called Weed.
In John Steinbeck's "Of Mice and Men”, Lennie and George travel together to work. They discuss the trouble they experience with Lennie's touching things he shouldn't and how that forces them to run, hide, and constantly search for work. Throughout the book, Steinbeck gives just a small picture of all the trouble Lennie has caused and how George continues to guide him to get by. A problem with a girl leads us to chapter 1 and 6, and how they share in setting, but George and Lennie's interactions differ. The similarities and differences of chapter 1 and 6 show how Lennie and George's cohesive friendship with a bright future develops into a loving bond that had to end.
Of Mice and Men by John Steinbeck, is a story about two close friends who are put through difficult times. This book was made into a movie. Throughout the story George and Lennie become inseparable friends, and face many situations together. The guys go into town without lennie. The trigger wasnt suppose to be pulled. Of Mice and Men is about 2 guys that travel around together that always have each others back in goods and bads days. One of them is Lennie he's a tall, big guy, but has a disability that a lot of people take advantage of on the other hand we have George he's small, thin guy. Hes Lennie mentors him in each step he takes.
Spoiler Alert: At the end of the book “Of Mice and Men”, George kills Lennie. It was a controversial death, with people from one side saying that George’s decision was justified, while others disagree and say that it was not justified. George’s decision to kill Lennie was justified by the fact that he had always looked out for Lennie, Lennie was going to die anyway, and he couldn’t bear to watch Lennie be tortured by the other workers. First, George had been looking out for Lennie since before the book started.
Lonley I am so lonely I have nobody to call my own” (Akon) These lyrics by Akon are going to be used to be compared to George and Lennie the two main characters in the book Mice of Men written by John Steinbeck. This first set of lyrics is related threw Lennie who is a big man that does have personal issues, He who is not very smart and if not all the time the most the time he is often alone. He is a compassionate man, but doesn't realize the strength and power he truly has. Its almost as if he needs someone constantly there for him.
You would never think of shooting a loved one or a close friend in the head, sometimes in life you have to make some hard decisions for the good of the whole. In the book Of Mice and Men written by John Steinbeck, George and Lennie have a strange Father/son relationship even though they are only friends. I will explain my rationale behind this theory in one of the below paragraphs. Lennie is quite childish and George is more of a strict person. Lennie has an obsession with soft things, like mice and rabbits; it is that lennie loves soft things because of his soft hearted nature.
In the entry, George and Lennie are introduced as two friends that are traveling together in search for a job to help accomplish their life long goal. George is described as a man who is “small and quick, dark of face, with restless eyes and sharp, strong features.” Lennie, on the other hand, is described
In the opening section of the novella, Steinbeck wishes to portray the relationship between George and Lennie as 'leader' and 'follower'. Steinbeck highlights that 'they walked in single file' down the narrow path and when they came into the open, 'one stayed behind the other'; which immediately indicates that George is dominant in this relationship, therefore Lennie is somewhat irresponsible, dependent and incapable of looking after himself. This image illustrates that George acts as a parental figure and Lennie is similar to a shy child hiding behind a father. Furthermore, in Chapter 2 this idea is developed when George also carries Lennie's work card, knowing that Lennie would lose it if he was responsible for it "Think I'd let you carry your own work card?". This quote shows how George acts as a parental figure for Lennie; George must look after Lennie's important possessions, as George knows that he will just lose them because of his simple-mindedness.
Although the action of George shooting Lennie in the back of the head in the novel “Of Mice and Men,” is absolutely heart wrenching, I completely support George’s decision and action, for he was providing protection for Lennie, himself and others. First of all, throughout the novel we notice that Lennie’s violent behaviour had been escalating higher and higher, eventually reaching the point where he killed a woman. It started simply with killing mice, then crushing Curley’s hand, then killing a puppy, and finally rose to the extreme point in which he murdered a human being. If somehow George had escaped with Lennie instead of choosing to end Lennie’s life, knowing that this pattern of violence would continue, it is probable that he could
Lennie and George are both grown men living during the great depression. The great depression was tough time for people to live in. Lennie and George struggled to find work in while living in a California. Although Lennie and George were seen as average men, many did not known that Lennie suffered a disability. Throughout the story, Steinbeck makes George to be seen as father, for looking out for Lennie.
The 1950's was a time of great change in the United States with many types of events and changes happening from then to now. Also having many different inventions created or "upgraded" from the original like the automobile progressing still. They had more highways built for transportation during war in case of bombs going off, so now we use those today for driving, moving, and transportation. With many military events happening you had the Cold War going on with others as well. One of others going on was the Korean War starting in the 50's.
Over time, many novels have been composed but society seems to continually come back to the writings of Homer. His novels have captivated audiences around the world with their heroic qualities that audience’s can appeal to. The Odyssey by Homer displays human like characteristics that society can admire because it reveals the morals of society. The audience is with Odysseus as he suffers through heartbreak, long nights away from home, and revenge. These qualities are all possessed by humans in today’ society which makes the epic poem more relatable to today’s public.
George and Lennie are the main characters in this story. They are two young friends who were left with nothing except some hopes and dreams. George and Lennie have dreamt of having and owning a small farm, but they were not able to fulfill their wishes because their lives were followed by heartbreaking failure. In the text, ‘Of Mice and Men’, friendship is portrayed in a very confusing way. It is dangerous so as to say.
