Autism is a mental disorder that restrains a person to communicate normally. According to Oxford dictionary Autism is “A mental condition, present from early childhood, characterized by great difficulty in communicating and forming relationships with other people and in using language and abstract concepts.”1 Autism was discovered in 1943 by Leo Kanner. Until now, there is no test to diagnose Autism. However, there are some symptoms that indicate it such as failing to make eye contact. Moreover, autistics don't respond when they are called. It usually starts at an early age, at the age of 3 symptoms are clear and it can be diagnosed by a specialist. In the past, people who suffer from Autism were placed in institutions. Specialists were not as educated as they are today. Every treatment method depends on the needs of the individual. A combination of treatments might be more effective. “Many people with Autism have sleep problems. These are usually treated by staying on a routine, including a set bedtime and time to get up. Doctors may try medication as a last resort ” 4. Parents play a huge part in the treatment by being supportive and patient.
