Leonardo da Vinci (1452-1519) was an Italian polymath; he was one of the greatest artists and thinkers of all time. Da Vinci's artistic talent was evident from an early age, and he quickly became one of the most sought-after painters in Renaissance Italy. He is best known for his art pieces Mona Lisa and The Last Supper. He is very skilled in showing composition, lighting, and perspective. In addition to his artistic achievements, da Vinci was also a great inventor, scientist, and philosopher. Leonardo was a highly intelligent man if you investigate him, he did so many important things for the world and some wonder what inspired a man like this to be so great. He used black or red chalk and sometimes used a mixture of both. In his early stage of drawing, he would use what is called metal point. This is a technique using a metal stylus to create a fine thin line. He created a technique called Sfumato. This is the combination of blending colors together to create a smokey effect.
