Lewis Carroll is well known for his unforgettable literary works. He is one of my favorite authors because he used his imagination in his books and poems, and his literature was very unique considering the time period he lived in. During the Victoria era, most children’s books were moralistic, lacking humor and fantasy. In contrast, Carroll's literature was the complete opposite. Aside from being an author, he was a mathematician, photographer, and logician. Another interesting aspect of Carroll is that he was never married, and he seemed to have no romantic interest in women. Rather, he enjoyed the company of young girls. Carroll was intriguing and peculiar, and this could be seen in many areas of his life. Lewis Carroll, originally known as Charles Lutwidge Dawson, was born on January 27, 1832 in Daresbury, England (Green 1). He took photographs of children and sometimes adults. He discovered hundreds of young girls through photography, and the pictures were known for being sensitive and candid (Senna 5). Carroll took pictures of children in many different costumes and settings (Green 3). Although his interactions with the young girls would seem questionable today, Carroll did have permission from the children’s parents, and his work was chaperoned (Senna 5).
