As I am finishing my four years at the University of the South with a Bachelor of Arts in Politics from one of the US’s top liberal arts colleges, I want to undertake graduate studies in Liberal Arts at Middle Tennessee State University.
At the University of the South, the institution has set out a standard liberal arts education, filled with rigorous coursework and impactful departments. Those majors foster close relationships between the faculty and students. But also, the university has allowed me the options to create platforms like Humans of Sewanee, a photography blog that encapsulates the daily life of Sewanee’s students. Before arriving at a graduate program next fall, I will embark on a comprehension examination in politics. This exam will tests seniors on their abilities and knowledge they have attained in the department’s concentrations.

My specific interests include political thought, social theory, family life, and African-American intelligentsia. In these past four years, I have worked assiduously to expand my comprehension and capability of these themes, and I have considerably appreciated the coursework my university has offered. I desire to connect these subjects through the Liberal Arts graduate program at Middle Tennessee State University so I can explore and present further understanding in the research of the black family structure. This program will accelerate my existing analyses of the theme, through the use of potential instruction and methods. I have corresponded with Dr. LaToya Eaves whose work is compatible to many of my research interests. Dr. Eaves’ expertise on black queer family life, and her future research has attract me to be under her advisory. Also, I am excited to collaborate with Dr.Sekou Franklin.
