Abstract
Between students, business journalists, and others tied into the academia there is significant disagreement about the value of a liberal arts education. The disagreement starts over if students will be prepared for a career in business with a liberal arts degree. One must stop and think about what skills are needed in a business career today. The world has changed from a hundred, fifty, and even ten years ago. The world is always changing, and it is changing at a rapid rate. Therefore, something that was good for something years ago may not be today. It is important to really study the given topic before making assumptions. Let’s go look into the value of the liberal arts degree and what skills are needed to pursue a career

Some feel it prepares students for a business career and others do not. People who support liberal arts degrees say that they broaden education and allow graduates to broaden their employment opportunities. They believe this degree provides more opportunities for the graduate rather than a specific degree. However, even though there are supporters there are critics too. That’s part of life and common with everything, not just this topic. The critics believe that the actual cost of college to earn a college degree helps to encourage students to attend for a vocational purpose and to graduate with an education in a specialized field. Critics also believe this helps graduates earn higher paying jobs much more quickly. Some skills are more important than others in a business career today than they might have ever been. Some skills that used to be more important could be less important for reasons such as the advancement of technology. Another question asked is how businesses view a liberal arts degree. I believe a liberal arts degree does not have the same value as a specialized degree. However, I would not be opposed to someone obtaining one and then furthering their education. A liberal arts degree is not a new thing. However, the world is evolving, and expectations are as well. Something that was worth something years ago may very well not be the case today. Graduating college years ago was a big deal and got you a nice paying job with ease. A large number of jobs a year ago did not even require college, let alone if you had a liberal arts degree or a more specialized degree. Nowadays after graduating high school, it is just about expected for a student to further their education and attend college from on average 2-4 years, but more in some cases. In addition to that it is expected that you have a college degree when applying for an abundant number of jobs. The pay scale does not even necessarily matter. If you want a job, you will be flat out asked your level of education when applying. Additionally, there is a section on resumes to cover just on education. Education is a big deal and is only going to get bigger. If you want a high paying job such as a lawyer, you are going to need to attend college. Now stop and think, can you be a lawyer with a liberal arts degree? No, a liberal arts degree won’t do. Yes, you can have a liberal arts degree, but you must also have a law degree. A law degree is a type of specialized degree. A lawyer is just one example of that. The more educated you are the better off you will be. Also, the more education you have under your belt will help make you earn
