Sleep is an essential need for people, and many college students deprive themselves of it. When midterms come around, students tend to stay up for hours trying to cram everything all at once, and depend on energy drinks to keep them awake. At the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, the Lied library provides students with multiple resources they need to study with, and many students do take advantage within this limited space. However, some students sleep in the library and occupy a table for themselves, and this causes distress in students who need to find a table to study.

Three years ago, the studying areas were a lot more limited until renovations were done. In the Rebel Yell article “Lied Library undergoes renovations, more updates planned” by Michael Hua, Hua talks about the changes done to the study areas. Hua stated that head committee for renovations “[provided] improvements in furniture, space, walls and signage that will be more suitable to the needs of library patrons” (Hua). With these renovations done three years ago, it should help students finding areas to get their work done. But as the years’ progress, UNLV does obtain more students, thus continuing the difficulty to find open space in the library to study. When going onto UNLV’s website for the headcount by demographic and enrollment variables, going from 2006 to 2015, each year, this institute student headcount does increase each year. Although the renovations did help with extra studying space, UNLV obtains more students each year which does cause limited space again. If nothing is done, other students may become influenced to do the same and believe they won’t get in trouble. There are times when security does catch students who fall asleep, but rarely does it ever happen. If UNLV implements more security within the library there will be no uproar because students know that they are not allowed to sleep. However, an issue with hiring more security will impact UNLV’s budget. UNLV has a restricted budget, and by hiring more staff may seem useless if all they do is have to look out for students who take a nap in the
