1930’s Entertainment
Life in the 1930’s was stressful and kind of boring, but thanks to movies, musicals, and fine arts, passing time was no longer a problem. Many famous movies, works of art, and musicals that are still known and loved today were produced in the 1930’s. People in the 1930’s would go to theaters and museums as a way to pass time. Like the people in the 1930’s we still use these forms of entertainment to pass time today.
Gone with the Wind, King Kong, and Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs are all movies that were produced in the 1930’s. These musicals were performed in theaters and are a combination of singing, dancing, and acting. “While relating to the harsh times, these settings not only capture the emotions of its audience but also manipulates them with a positive turn of events at the end” (Hollywood in the Depression). These musicals were a great ways to get people to take their minds off of what was going on around them. “In addition to magical worlds of Oz, musicals painted more familiar scenes such as Depression-stricken cities and tension filled homes”(Hollywood in the Depression). Not all musicals were happy but they still told a good story. “The 1930s through the early 1950s are considered to be the golden age of the musical film, when the genre 's popularity was at its highest in the Western world” (Musical Film). Musicals in the 1930’s were very influential to other time periods. Some Musicals are still remade today.
If you lived in the 1930’s you had many ways to keep yourself entertained. Movies, fine arts, and musicals were all ways to pass time and have fun while doing so. The 1930’s were very influential times for different forms of entertainment and all of these time consuming activities are still used
