Life Lessons One life lesson is don't drive while looking at a phone. Driving while not looking at the road risks everyone else on the road. Don't take eyes off the road. The author of the short story “How to transform an everyday, Ordinary Hoop Court into a Place of Higher Learning and You at the Podium” is Matt De La Pena. Life lessons are very important in your life because it can teach you many valuable lessons. There are many life lessons you can learn on and off the court but the narrator learns more valuable life lessons off of the court. First, the life lessons learned on the court helped the narrator learn more about the challenges of sports. For example Dante tells the narrator “you wanna get in games, you don't just sit there like a punk right,? (de la Pena 9). The life lessons the narrator learned here is that he can't sit there and think he's gonna get in games, he has to speak up and tell them he wants to play. Another example he learned on the court is “but just as your feeling yourself, Dante will be back in your grill” (de la Pena 9). The reason the life lessons off the court are better than on the court is, the narrator learns way more life skills and gets closer to his family. Another example why the life lessons off the court are better than on the court is, the narrator learns that he needs motivation to reach goals in his life and he has to push himself everyday to reach his goal which is going to the muni gym every morning.
