This movie presents a story between a boy seeking revenge against the antagonist- Bill the butcher- and a portrayal of the various gangs living in the Five Points. Gangs of New York is historically accurate in the way it interprets the New York city riots, the characterization of the gangs in The Five Points, and the hardships of the Irish immigrants.
The film "The Godfather" is an excellent one. A story about revenge, family, and corruption all combined into a masterful work of art. Gangster's are more often than not portrayed as a "bad" guy, this is the reason why, I believe, that filmmakers who make movies in this genre may have a hard time in soliciting sympathy from the viewers for the characters in the film. In the movie "The Godfather", I found it easy to feel sympathy for the characters. This was achieve by how Francis Ford Coppola portrayed the Corleone family.

The story is about the history of an Italian mafia family and their organized crime over a ten-year period of time. It centers around the head of the family Don Vito Corleone who is a powerful head of the mafia but is well respected by the Sicilian community. The story delves into the corrupting influence of power but it is centered upon family responsibility, a father's legacy, and the complex codes the characters in the story lives by. To Vito Corleone, a true Sicilian loves their family above all.
