The Lin Family Case was heard at The Supreme Court of New South Wales on Friday the 20th of March. Lian Bin ‘‘Robert’’ Xie is currently accused for the brutal murder of the Lin family which occurred on the 18th of July 2009 at the Lin Family’s North Epping residence in the young hours of the day from 12am to 5am. Five counts of murder were recorded, this being the entire Lin Family; Min Lin- 45, Yun Li Lin- 44 who is the wife of Min, Terry- 9 and Henry-12 who are the sons of Min and Yun, and Yun Bin Lin- 39 who is the sister of Yun. Excluding Brenda Lin who was the daughter of Min and Yun , she was not present at the time of the murder (Bibby and Hall, 2014).

The time of the murder occurred in the early hours of midnight to dawn, leading to the victims being in bed at the time. The pillows were soaked and walls were sprayed with the blood of the victims, “the force of the hammer-like weapon struck against the victim’s head was violent, thus blood spraying on the walls of the bedroom” (Tedeschi, 2015). Mr Lin’s sister was Kathy Lin, Mr Xie’s wife (Bibby and Hall, 2014). The assailant and the murder victims had family connection of which Mr Lin was Mr Xie’s brother-in-law, the accused had a strong dislike towards the victim Mr Lin and his family, since he would continuously be compared to his more successful brother-in-law, “Mr Xie was heard saying to a prisoner at Sydney's Long Bay Jail that dishonour in the Chinese culture inclines ‘loss of face’ ” (Tedeschi, 2015).
