Lincoln’s Gettysburg Address There is such power in this speech but what does it mean? I think that when you break down the speech into sections you find more meaning behind what Lincoln was trying to instill in that moment. I think that this speech in and of itself it trying to tell more than just the Battle of Gettysburg. In the first paragraph, it seems that Lincoln is explaining that the fore fathers signed the Declaration of Independence in 1776 to signify a new change. They wanted to signify that this would become the birth of a new nation under the context of “all men are created equal”. The fore fathers wanted the Declaration of Independence to be the “fire starter” that pushed the world towards a better future. …show more content…

The Battle of Gettysburg was just a reminder that the Civil War was a beacon in the quest for freedom and independence. From what I could interpret from the last bit of the second paragraph, was regarding the poorly marked graves of the dead soldiers; Confederate and Union. Lincoln appeared to be stating how this was not the hallowed ground to honor; but that of proper burial and markers. The last sentence in the second paragraph is a statement piece noting that, even though words may fade in time, the deaths and sacrifices of the living and dead will live on as infamous markers. With the final paragraph, the main idea is to ensure that the deaths and sacrifices of the living and dead are not in vain. It is the crucial to uphold that what they fought for will be remembered and carried out. The dead will be honored by granting “a new birth of freedom” unto the nation and forthwith. The last part tied us all together as in the beginning the soldiers have done their part and we must now do ours as
