The Lion King is the article that I chose for my topic which is also the American animated film. This article not only describe the story of Simba, the young lion cub who learns his gender role through many difficulties but compare the different vision of the family between The Lion King and Bambi – the American animated movie as well. Moreover, The Lion King received many criticisms from parents, journalists, and educators about the violent death’s role in the movie for children.

Simba, who is the son of Mufasa, the king of the Pride Lands, will be the new heir in the future. He learns how to encourage, and how to be responsible for his family and his kingdom in his mature adulthood. He is pushed into the role of the head of his family, and has the authority over his wife and children. He is socialized that the king is the male who is strong, muscular, and dominated to defend his family and kingdom. Compared to Bambi, The Lion King represents the different role of the parents. I remembered that when Simba leaves the kingdom because Scar, his uncle tells to him that his roar killed his father, his mother and family cannot defend themselves and are controlled by Scar and the hyenas, even though they can find the food and provide it for the whole kingdom. Since the Simba’s return, he defeats Scar, and the kingdom is reestablished. Therefore, the film shows the women as weak, passive and submissive to the male. However, Walt Disney Feature Animation produced the second part Simba’s Pride. Kiara, Sim’s daughter is the main character who makes an attempt to make Simba proud of her and gain his acceptance that the Outsiders can back into the kingdom.
