The actions of the characters and the role of fate portray the fact that death is inevitable in this play. The power of fate and destiny contributed to the deaths of the two lovers, Romeo and Juliet. For instance, "A pair of star-cross'd lovers take their life; whose misadventur'd piteous overthrows"(1.prologue.6-7). In other words, "star-crossed" means that when the stars are taken out of their sequence, things go awry, and fate changes the order of things. This term is used to describe Romeo and Juliet's love.
