In the article "Virtual Students, Digital Classroom,” by Neil Postman he presents his thoughts about technology in class. Postman comes to the conclusion that high-technology in the classroom won’t solve any of the schools’ issues and will also take over his and other teachers teaching jobs. Computers in the classroom will not help children learn any more than they already know in school, if teachers were replaced computers, students will lose the face to face interaction that can only be with another human, and teachers go to school to learn to teach a specific subject and how to teach that subject to the students. Up until this point in Jane Eyre, Charlotte Brontë suggests that the overarching conflict of fire and ice can never truly be resolved through the oscillation of Jane’s fiery nature at Gateshead, to an icy nature at Lowood, to fiery again at Thornfield. After running away from Thornfield and finding shelter with the Rivers at Moor House, Jane begins to teach at the local all-girls village-school in Morton. By crafting contrasting moods from day to night while at the village-school, Brontë highlights Jane’s inner battle between logic and passion.
Technology plays a large role in my life, as it probably does in many 21st century high school students’. I use my iPhone and laptop most frequently. My school has a one to one laptop program, so every student has their own chromebook. I do school related work on there, mostly using Google Docs to write a paper or to get online work from my teachers. Because it is a Google chromebook, Google Drive is very easy to use and helps me access work on many different devices.

As the World progresses, technology has always been a part of it, if not ahead. I for one, have grown up in a time where the use of technology has been intertwined in the society. Since technological advancements began a while ago, the newer generation of children has access to it with ease than those who came before them. This then does arise some concerns about the effect of technology on younger generations. Just like with other controversial topics, there are some negative sides to technology as well as positive sides.

When new technologies are integrated into the classroom both teachers and students need to become accustomed to it before they can fully reap the benefits. Because of this, "teachers' first technology projects generate excitement but often little content learning. Often it takes a few years until teachers can use technology effectively in core subject areas (Goldman, Cole, & Syer, 1999). " Educators are taking a risk by placing computers in the classroom.
In the classroom, technology can encompass all kinds of tools from low-tech pencil, paper, and chalkboard, to the use of presentation software, or high-tech tablets, online collaboration and conferencing tools, and more. The newest technologies allow us to try things in physical and virtual classrooms that were not possible before. Today, I cannot imagine how difficult it is to teach without technology and how hard it is to learn without it. Technology plays a major part in our lives as students.

Looking up from my reading my history book I realize something I have become so accustomed to: the amount of technology being used in the classroom. Everyone is on their school issued iPads. Some appear to be glued to the screen like they’re watching something, and others look like madmen with their fingers flying across the keyboard, trying to keep up with the lecture. The lecture is on a laptop which is connected to a projector, putting it up on a Smartboard. Long gone are the days of blackboards and chalk.
