Shaleah Phillips Applied Activity #2. For this activity, I picked the Lizzie Borden case. Lizzie Borden is perhaps America's most infamous accused axe murderer, who was tried for her alleged crimes, killing her stepmother and her father, in a sensational trial in 1893 in Massachusetts. Borden lived at the same residence as her father and stepmother in Fall River, Massachusetts.
Lizzie Borden is guilty of murdering Andrew Borden and Abby Borden on August 4, 1892, in Fall River, Massachusetts. I can prove this because in the article “Could the Journals of Lizzie Borden’s Lawyer Reveal the Truth.” by Daily Mail Reporter it says that “Andrew had also upset Lizzie for chopping off the heads of pigeons she fed and watered. Lizzie had also fallen out with her stepmother and called her 'Mrs.Borden’”(Daily Mail Reporter). This shows that Lizzie was very upset at both her father and Abby which means she would have a perfect motive for wanting them gone.
She had to fight alone and became a disgrace to the town she loved. We need to get justice for Lizzie Borden whom she never got to experience. Also, this is one of the most fascinating stories, as it is still up in the air who completed the murder. The event is almost like a real-life move. As the storylines are very crazy and the killer is unreviled.
At that moment, she became the main suspect in the murders. Moreover, the day before the murders Lizzie had been seen attempting to purchase a deadly prussic acid from the drugstore. Why else would she have done that unless she was attempting to murder someone? Lizzie had also been seen burning the dress she allegedly wore on the day of the murders in the stove. If there is so much evidence of her guilt, then why did she get away?
The first reason I believe Lizzie is guilty of the murders of Andrew and Abby Borden is because she lied about her stepmom Abby Borden receiving a note from a friend being sick on the day she and her husband were murdered. “The Crime” stated, “Andrew asked Lizzie where Abby was, and Lizzie told him Abby had received a note that someone was ill and that she had left the house.”
I believe that Lizzie Borden did kill Both Abby and Andrew Borden on the day of August 4, 1892. Some people think that Lizzie is guilty some think she is innocent. My reasons for believing this are she wanted more attention from her father. My second reason is when she testified about what happened and her whereabouts it didn't add up. My third and final reason to believe that Lizzie is guilty is she had reasons to think that her father was going to get hurt shortly before her father got killed.
Some of the time Lizzie and her sister Emma would not eat with the elder Borden. Lizzie did not eat with them the day so they expert said maybe Lizzie felt she did have to because she was going to kill them (Berni, C. (1997). After, the murder had taken place Lizzie had burnt a dress and then claimed it had red paint on it. Lizzie was know to shoplift from local stores.
Also from CBS News, they provide pictures of the skulls of Andrew and Abby Borden. The pictures of the skulls show large pieces of both skulls missing from the skulls, CBS News reports. This evidence shows that someone had very, very harsh thoughts and a person like Lizzie is not that person. To continue, the Borden family’s maid, Bridget Sullivan, has the capability to actually commit a murder like this. In Article #5 it says, “Bridget said that she had worked for the Bordens for two years and ten months doing general housework.”
Lizzie Borden… She was 33 at the time of her parent murders and was listed as a suspect. She is very guilty. I have 3 reasons why I say this, also some reasons why others may disagree with me. Lizzie was very suspect when she told her side of the story and she did things that made me feel this way, also she didn’t seem very upset about her parents and she was still comfortable in the house afterwards.
The women, including Lizzie, participated in all the community activities. Lizzie and her sister, Emma, still live with their father and mother. A maid was also present at the home. It is widely believed that the wife of Mr. Borden, Abby Borden, was not the mother of his daughters and that she was a stepmother to the sisters. The Borden household was not peaceful, Lizzie and Emma hated their father's wife.
Lizzie Borden-- Did she kill her parents? Lizzie Borden was accused of killing her father and stepmother on August 4th, 1892, but did she do it? “This was not a happy family. As the girls grew up, things got worse.”
Other family members could be guilty of the crime, not just Lizzie. The first possible suspect that comes to mind is John Morse, Lizzie’s uncle who, after supposedly being made aware of the horrible murders, is said to have “ambled” into the back yard and proceeded to “eat pears in the shade” (King 27). The next possible suspect would have to be Emma, who, being out of town that day was sent a telegram telling her about the murders, but she “did not catch the next train,” or the next, in fact she did not “return” home “until after seven that night” (King 27). Doesn't that seem a little odd, seeing as her father was just killed; unless she had something to do with it and couldn’t get home until then, but we will never know. Another possible suspect is Bridget Sullivan, the maid who happened to be in and around the house at the time of the murders (“The Lizzie Borden Story”).
Gentlemen of the jury, the people of Fall River have been entranced with the case from the moment they found out Andrew and Abby Borden were brutally killed. As soon as people heard about the killings of Mr. and Mrs. Borden, they immediately began speculating as to who could have committed these heinous acts. Throughout the trial, all of the facts presented have pointed back to Lizzie. It has always been a known fact that Lizzie has resented Abby her entire life, her alibi isn’t in agreement with other evidence, and how void she is of emotion is truly telling on her character. Lizzie’s birth mother died when she was 2 from complications during childbirth and once she was the age of 5, her father remarried to Abby Durfee (Gray) Borden.
In Lizzie Borden: Murderess or Media Sensation it states that “There was no physical evidence linking her to the murders” There was no evidence that she did the murders. They didn't question anybody but Lizzie. Anyone could have done it. This just proves that Lizzie did not do
Lizzie Borden had reasons to kill her dad and stepmother for example it was crazy how she just killed her father and stepmother like that. Because it is her parents and she shouldn’t kill her parents that shows she has no respect for them. Lizzie killed Andrew on the sofa with about 11 bows. In concluding Andrew was on the couch and Lizzie was convincing Andrew to relax on the sofa. That’s how Andrew died.
