Bread for the city is a non-profit organization that has opened its doors in 1974 as a frontline agency serving Washington DC poor. It started off as two organizations; a free medical clinic and a home to feed and clothe the poor. In 1995, both the organizations merged and there are now two locations in the District of Columbia area that provide free direct services to residents that are low income and live in the DC area. It was created by five neighborhood churches that collaborated in order to fulfill the concerns of homeless, the hungry and the poor citizens of Washington,
I had never really thought about the layout until Patel discussed the atmospherics in the grocery store. Everything from the lighting to the smell distracts us from the fact we are in a giant warehouse and allows us to part with our money. Patel even mentioned that the milk is often times at the back of the store because it is the most common thing bought and grocery stores want you to buy
I arrived at the Loaf N Jug located at 59 S. Curtis at 10:15 a. m. and observed 7 cars in the parking lot and 3 cars purchasing fuel. The exterior of the building was clean, well maintained and the overall appearance was inviting. Entering the store, the cashiers were engaged with customers so I proceeded to walk up and down the aisles looking at the shelves and floor area. They both appeared stocked and organized.

Welty uses various senses to paint the picture of the store. " -licorice recently sucked in a child's cheek, dill-pickle brine that had leaked through a paper sack in a fresh trail across the wooden floor, ammonia loaded ice that had been hoisted from wet cracker sacks and slammed into the icebox with its sweet butter at the door, and perhaps the smell of still-untrapped mice." (Welty, 149) she goes into vivid detail describing the various smells as you enter the store. This type of sensory imagery makes you remember your own experiences going into a store filled with treats.

(#4) The author utilizes observations and analysis of her customers to support her ideas. This evidence is speculative since it is opinionated and based on experiences. To back the claim that owning a store is more than selling novels, Welch notes that her customers have a lot of predicaments and stories to tell when they come in. She practically doubles as a therapist, as her shop has become an “intellectual pub” where people talk about what is on their minds (188).

The date is August 22, 1791. Today is the day when we, the Haitian slaves, plan on massacring the French troops who will be arriving on the beach of Saint- Domingue. My father Ricardo and his army are sitting in a circle discussing strategies. He picks up a stick, draws a line in the sand and points at the right side of the line. ¨This is the sea where the French will come in from.¨
Pretty soon the smell of grease and heart attack was soon going to be my next exotic fragrance. The sight of array of tables and chairs, windows showing a vivid view of the busy Mills Avenue, walls of grey and dark undertone (saying eat more), and hungry perfectionist standing adjacent to the counter was going to be the only thing I will see. The sound of loud machines and the constant yell of “Welcome
When they walked up to the counter to checkout this was their experience, “’Is this counter open?’ Keiko asked. The clerk just looked around for another

The noise the customers made was immense which reminded me how popular a place this is. I made my way to the coffee bar at the end of the shop made of reclaimed wood. A barista stood before me. He welcomed me with a charming smile. I got my cup of Americano and paid for it in the next counter.
