People are surrounded yet it can be quite isolating. Isolation is feeling that often affects most, even if not isolated. Even if one was surrounded by people it can not change the feelings inside, being in presence can not change being lonely because it is lonely to keep taboo thoughts inside. The book A Brave New World, by Aldous Huxley is fictional short novel where it is set far in the future where everyone is given a false happiness. Bernard Marx is different, he sees things no one can or rather no one wants to see. Huxley demonstrates through Bernard that isolation is a strong feeling that can not be changed by society or relationships.

Bernard is a typical citizen with a life like any other. Yet one thing is different about him, his thinking. Bernard stares at a sky and find peaceful and rewarding, he sees clouds and the sea and finds them beautiful. He feels alone when he is out in the world because he knows that there is no one else is like him. So why bother even trying to fit in when it was not meant to be? Bernard can not focus on the little things and not worry about the big things. He knows that this life he is living is a lie. He knows the thoughts he was conditioned to think are the states suggestions, not his own. So Bernard goes through his life wondering if is actually free, if he’s happy. …show more content…

Bernard knows that the “happiness” everyone feels now is false. Bernard does not want false happiness he wants real genuine happiness. The society revolves around this happiness and that isolates Bernard even more. When he attends the rituals, he is not content, instead he feels even more alone. The soma gives a happiness that never lasts and he knows it would not be worth taking if it means he will be miserable
