Romeo and Juliet is known by many and most know the unbearable tragedy of this story which asks the question. Who is at fault for their demise? Although most people would agree that Lord Capulet and Friar Lawrence are to blame, Romeo is at fault for the many deaths that happen throughout the play because of how he is impulsive, how he instigated the relationship, and how he should have thought rationally. Romeo being impulsive made their relationship and marriage rushed. He only rushed because he was impatient and he just wanted to spend the rest of his life with the love of his life, Juliet. Romeo also instigated their relationship, which gave Juliet no time to think about what she wants. He kept telling Juliet he loved her and how he would do anything just so he could be with her, which made Juliet feel the same way about him. He even seeks her out on her balcony and makes her feel desperate for his love since he loves her so much. The NY Times Magazine Article: “How Shakespeare Invented Teenagers”, states that, “The opposition between the adolescent and the mature orders of the world can have only two possible endings. One is comic: the teenager grows up, develops a sense of humor, marries, has kids, moves to the suburbs, gets fat, and becomes bored. The other is tragic: the teenager blows up in a blaze of glory.” How Romeo and Juliet blow up in this blaze of glory leads to their tragedy.
