The play Romeo and Juliet is a tragedy written by William Shakespeare in the 16th Century. It is one of the most well-known plays ever written and is taught in schools today. The play is about two lovers who fall in love at first sight, even though they are from families who have hated each other for a long time. They become married and hide their love from their families. In the end, Romeo commits suicide and Juliet follows him. Lord Capulet and Montague are responsible for Romeo and Juliet's deaths because they continued the family rivalry, were ignorant of their kids' relationship, and their hatred for one another made Romeo and Juliet hide their relationship. Lord Capulet and Lord Montague could have stopped this any time, and they could have come together. Instead, they continued the rivalry, which without it Romeo and Juliet would never have died. Also, Lord Capulet and Lord Montague are responsible for Romeo and Juliet's deaths because they are ignorant of their kids’ relationship. Some people might argue that other characters such as Mercutio are responsible because he started the fight that ended with Romeo killing Tybalt, which left him banished (Shakespeare 3.1.72-193). But this is not true if Lord Capulet and Lord Montague knew about their kids' relationship, then none of this would have happened. Shakespeare wrote, “O brother Montague, give me thy hand: This is my daughter jointure, for no more can I demand.”(Shakespeare 5.3.307-309). Lord Capulet was very surprised that this happened and had no idea about Romeo and Juliet's relationship.
