The Island of Hell Lord of the Flies by William. Golding shows us how quickly humans can turn to evil when they are isolated from society. On the island, the boys thought they were in a paradise all alone on an island without rules and adults to control them, but soon later realized that they were trapped in hell. as the quest for power had driven the boys to become Savage and toss aside the ways of society. The author introduces Jack and Ralph as two conflicting characters that fight for control over the island going at it and opposite ways, one good and one evil. In the end, neither of them achieved control of the boys... Jack attempts to try and understand what he is feeling as something like this has never happened to him before. He tries to find himself by hunting alone in the forest. although all this does is turn Jack into an animal. The author describes Jack as dog-likeAnd describes what being on the island is done to him. He has long Sandy hair, his bareback peeling with masses of black freckles with a pair of tattered shorts.m "At like he let out his breath and alongside and opened his eyes. They were bright blue, his eyes that in this frustration seemed bolting and nearly mad."(48) This quote represents Jack's conflicting personalities representing both order and chaos. When the author says bright blue eyes he is seemingly portraying Jack's Old civilized self, while bolting and nearly mad eyes portray his savage self. "Nearly" Suggesting that Jack is on the cusp of losing his sanity. with his incompetence still living over him he seeks out Ralph and attempts to convey what has been swallowing him up. Jack said " I went on, I thought, by myself," Ralph thinks to himself the madness came into his eyes again. "I thought I might kill," said Jack. "but you didn't," replied Ralph. "I thought I might," said Jack (51). Jack has a lot on his mind as he's still trying to contemplate that he tried to kill something. Though when Jack says " I thought by myself" it shows that he's attempting to reflect on his thoughts and feelings. However, the amount of times Jack said "thought" indicates that Jack's thoughts aren't coherent. The author uses this quote to portray how Jack is slowly progressing further and further from his old
