This book creates three different objects to represent the characteristics and details of the storyline that complete it. The fire symbolically demonstrates the hope and aspiration that Ralph has to be liberated from the island. Ralph’s creative mind comes up with the idea to start a fire so that anyone passing by on a ship or plane can see that there is life on the island. “A fire. Make a fire. At one half the boys were on their feet” (38). All of the boys in the group agreed to keep the fire alive for as long as they stayed on the island. They were all eager to be rescued by anyone with the simple fact that there wasn’t a single adult on the island with them. “The fire was out smokeless and dead; the watchers were gone” (69). His mind is in hunting mode. He quickly becomes obsessed with the action of killing innocent animals for meat. Jack convinces the twins, who were supposed to be in charge of the fire, to go hunt with the rest of the group and of course the offer is so tempting that they agree. At the same time that the boys leave the fire unattended, a ship happens to pass by. Ralph quickly realizes that there is no smoke coming from the fire and rushes to the top. As soon as he arrives, he realizes that there is no one on top of the mountain and the fire was completely out. Ralph’s temper quickly rises. Jack arrives with the group, full of blood from a pig. “You let the fire go out. This repetition made Jack uneasy. He looked at the twins and then back at Ralph. The fire’s only been out an hour or two. We can light up again” (70). The fire signifies the only hope that Ralph has been holding
