Children Come Together To Try To Survive “The faster you can signal for rescue, the faster you get out of that situation.” In the book, Lord of the Flies, the children were getting flown out of England to keep them safe from World War II and crashed on an island is the Pacific Ocean. They noticed that there was no adult on the island so they tried to make a society on there own. They boys tried but it was extremely difficult for the boys to comply with the rules and as the days wore on they struggled to follow them. In order to survive on the island the boys made rules, created shelter and started hunting, and in the end they had to start fighting to survive. The first thing that the boys decided to do when they found out that they were on an island with no adult was to make up rules to try to stay more civilized. The first rule that the kids had made was about the conch that they had found in the water. "We can use this to call the others. Have a meeting. They'll come when they hear us--" (Golding 16). So Ralph decided to call a meeting with the conch to tell everyone that, that was his plan and that was what everyone needed to do. “Been working for days now. And look! Two shelters were in position, but shaky. This one was a ruin. And they keep running off. You remember the meeting? How everyone was going to work hard until the shelters were finished” (Golding 50). Ralph was getting very furious because at the meeting he told everyone that they needed to contribute to making the huts, but the only two people that have been making them are Simon and Ralph, and they only have two huts done that are not in very good condition. Most of the reason that nobody would help with the shelters is because most of them went out hunting for food with jack, most of the time they came back empty handed which did not make their leader Ralph happy
