A plane containing young boys crash lands on a remote island. The pilot dies, A so the boys are by themselves on the island. A couple boys named Ralph and Piggy discover a conch shell, and after blowing it a few times, the boys that were scattered all over the island flock towards the noise. The boys vote Ralph as their leader, who appoints a boy named Jack as the leader of the Hunters. They start off by building a signal fire, which gets out of hand and catches the whole forest on fire. One of the small children is lost and presumed dead from the fire. The boys enjoy their life without adults in the beginning, but complaints creep in after Ralph wants shelters built and the signal fire maintained, while Jack and the hunters miss their chance at a pig. A little while after the meeting, a dead soldier in a parachute falls from the sky. A couple of the boys see the parachute in the night sky and hear the noises it makes and believes it’s a monster. After trying to hunt this monster, Jack calls out Ralph and says he is a coward, and stems off his own group, in which most of the boys join.
