In the book Raisin in The Sun the characters talk about their dreams. Dreams are most helpful because they give you hope of one day reaching those sensations in people’s lives. The author Lorraine Hansberry intended the book to have the certain impact about how people back then struggled to deal with harsh circumstances that act in their everyday life. The dreams of Mama, Ruth and Walter show us that, despite great obstacles, the American Dream is still possible. First, one character who possesses a powerful dream is Walter. Dreams help to regulate, analyze, explain and remember recent moments in our everyday life. His dream was to use Mama’s money to open a liquor store with his friends Willie and Bobo, which could have provided income for his entire family. Walter tells Ruth “See there, that just goes to show you what women understand about the world. Baby, don’t nothing happen for you in this world ‘less you pay somebody off.” This quote is sexist and Walter talks about how believes that money is a man’s domain nether women can be able to comprehend. Dreams are based on a large part of our everyday lives. Her dream is to have her family happy. She believes the goal is to buy a bigger and better place for them to live which is the house in Clybourne Park. Mama tells Beneatha “There is always something left to love. And if you ain’t learned that, you ani’t learned nothing.” This quote means that Mama tells Beneatha that she needs to show more support for Walter. Also says that instead of constantly crying for herself, she should really be crying for Walter and be understanding of what he has gone through.
